The Shop
Fanticore ~ a Magical Shop. Well, that sign looks interesting...
"Who would have thought buying that silly-looking paper weight would have ended like this? Someone has to help me. I'm going to be up to the neck in dragons!"
You pause in the doorway of the shop, the tiny bell hanging over the glass partition still tinkling, unable to believe your ears. You thought this was just one of those places that sold incense, or maybe tarot cards and little dragon figures. You somehow manage to stumble out a question - perhaps you hadn't heard right -- and the proprietor smiles gently at you.
"Oh, no. I'm very serious." As the woman speaks a blur or blue flashes past her shoulder, chattering loudly. "Hush, Spiffy - I'm talking with this person now. Settle down and I'll make some tea later."
How did she get a parrot that small?
"Oh, Spiffy isn't a parrot," she assures you. Reaching a hand out in the air she whistles softly and the buzzing little thing lands on it. Either you've gone mad or she's been telling you the truth, because perched on her fingers and looking extremely pleased with himself is a tiny blue dragon with swirling white markings. He has ear flaps like a sea-monster might sport, spikes connected by webbing at the sides of his face and a long tail with a spade-like tip at the end. Spiffy curls his tail around her arm and chirps at you, presumably in greeting.
"I guess you're wondering how it happened? Pull up a chair, my friend, and listen. This isn't a silly old person's shop, oh, no. I may be getting on in years but I assure you I'm not burning and 'special' incense to make you see Spiffy. Besides, we both see him." Elly smiled, then sighed and scratched absently at her short black hair with her free hand, shot with silver in many places.
"Where was I? Oh, yeah. I do have dragon eggs for sale, as you can see. What's that? I thought they were just sculptures myself when I picked the first two up at some garage sale a few weeks ago. I sat the pretty things down on my desk and didn't think anything was strange until I saw cracks in one of them. Outraged, I berated my husband for dropping them without telling me but he just stared at me a little blanker than usual."
"That he did," Spiffy snickered.
"Sure they can talk!" She seems amused you would be surprised at this fact. "Why not? Anyway, turns out my warm desk lamp had softened their hard little shells. Moments later two pairs of lidless eyes were peering up at me and well, wouldn't you know dragons tend to breed like rabbits?"
"I didn't do anything," the blue dragon said with a toss of his head. "Yet." He smirked.
"Take a turn or two about the shop, friend. I'm sure you'll find one to your liking. Fanticore - they even have their own name -- are friendly, mischievous things. Oh, my yes. And they're wingless but that doesn't seem to hinder them from getting about in the air. They're magic, after all. You'll see."

3.) Don't create an "all powerful" character, please
4.) Don't ever stop believing in dragons. <3
5.) Place 'OOC' before any OOC-ing
6.) No foolish "look at me" drama.

"I'm bored," Spiffy pouted, laying his ear flaps down and sulking as he sat on the shop's counter top.
"Someone's bound to come in sooner or later. I sold a few eggs, remember?" Elly ran a hand through her hair and yawned a little.
"I'm hungry, too," the water dragon mumbled.
"So'm I. What do you want for lunch?"
"Anything but scrambled eggs."
"I said I was sorry for that. Besides, they were chicken eggs..."

Cautiously carrying the small green egg, Phee slipped in through the front door, smiling as she saw Elly and the swirling blue dragon beside her.
"I really gotta get a better way to carry this...her." Switching arms, Phee carefully adjusted it so it sat better in the crook of her arm. "It's kinda odd to go out in public with a big green rock, if you know what I mean!"

Spiffy chirped gleefully and levitated off the table, zipping over to Phee and rubbing his soft little face against hers. He liked this human, he'd often told Elly, because she smelled good. She'd had to contain a giggle at that. Not that Phee didn't have a lovely fragrance about her, but Spiffy was referring to the scent of caffeine he caught on her. He was a coffee nut.
"Hi, Phee!"
"Elly brought in some little carrying bags for the eggs," Spiff told her happily. He settled on his owner's shoulder after a moment of indecision and puffed steam from his nostrils.
"Watch it," she told him warningly.
"It's cool." He paused. "The steam, I mean."

Laughing, Phee grinned. "Why, hey there Spiff!" The little dragon was always so much friendlier to her if she had her coffee first.
"Hey Els! Little carrying bags?" Pulling a face, she fussed with her glasses. "Please tell me they don't look like purses."

Elly feigned shock.
"Good lord, no," she laughed. "They're kinda like those woven sacks you get an Renn Faires!" She held one up, a riot of green and gold that almost, but not quite, matched the egg Phee was cradling in the crook of her arm.
"Can we eat now?" Spiffy complained.

"Oh! More of a coin purse." Phee laughed, shortly, carefully placing the egg she carried down on the counter top. "Ya seem ready and rarin' to get some grub, there buddy! What's the rush?"
Turning her attention back to Elly, she pointed at the bag. "How much for one? I'm sure that won't look outta place with my general wardrobe."

Spiffy rolled his eyes.
"I'm still growing," he told her seriously. "I'm not my full size yet..."
"Keep stuffing your little seams full like you do at every opportunity and you'll split that hide of yours," Elly told him, rubbing his belly with a careful finger.
"So? You got oil for us." Elly sighed tolerantly.
"Yes, I do. Oh, and that one's on the house - Spiff picked something up someplace that paid for a whole bunch of them. Looks like Fanti really do behave like dragons in fairy tales do." She held up a dirty coin. Phee's eyes widened.
"Yep. Gold."
