Education (part 2)

So perhaps there is some truth to the saying that "true wisdom" is when you've reached the point you realize you don't know jack.  If you think you know what's going on in reality, you don't have a clue, as if you think you can pigeonhole reality, you're simplifying it into a narrow little box constrained by your own personal limitations; you are completely bypassing reality and substituting it with your own.  It's interesting to note that although the public sometimes considers science to be prescriptive of reality, it is not.  It describes reality, it does not prescribe reality; even then it can only describe that which lies within its frame of investigation.  That's probably all we ever really do, humanity; we describe reality and delude ourselves into thinking that our descriptions of reality actually *are* reality.  Heh.  It is, for better or worse, a necessary delusion

Education (part 1)

It's a paradoxical thing, education.  The further I progress, the more and more I become convinced that the further you go, the more you realize how little you do actually know.  The oversimplified packages you're presented with in K-12 education (and even as an undergraduate) break down as you dive into the cutting-edge literature and realize everything is immensely more complicated than you could have possibly imagined.  The end result of all of this is that although you are learning more, you feel that you know considerably less than you did when you started, as all of your previous oversimplified visions of reality become shattered and replaced with a complex beastie that is difficult to even wrap your head around.
